Diverting from landfilling and improving waste management will have very positive effects on human health, the environment, climate and the economy. Many countries around the world are suffering from the negative effects of landfill fires, leachate, emission of potent climate gases, rodents and the loss of resources and are working on the diversion of landfilling. Europe aims at phasing out landfilling for recyclable waste including plastics, paper, metals, glass and bio-waste.
We are supporting the transition from landfilling to modern waste management also through landfill rehabilitation and landfill mining for the use of the available resources.
